Cooperativa Vida Nueva

Teotitlán del Valle is a community famous for its beautiful wool carpets, although historically only men had the right to weave and sell their pieces, while women were responsible for household chores. 55 years ago, that story changed thanks to a group of visionary women who founded Cooperativa Vida Nueva, the first weavers' workshop, which includes widows, mothers, and young women among its members. Through the sale of their pieces, they provide opportunities and economic independence to the women of their community since 1996. Each carpet is made with wool dyed with natural dyes by themselves and woven on a pedal loom.
